Ancelotti is like an uncle to me - Lewandowski

Sat 22 May 2021 | 10:54

The Poland international believes Carlo Ancelotti to be “like an uncle” to him and thinks he has come to the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Carlo Ancelotti

was

Robert Lewandowski

’s coach when he was a manager at

Bayern Munich

in the 2016-17 season.

While Jurgen Klopp is a coach who also tries to be like your father, motivating you to give the best, Ancelotti is like an uncle to me,”

Lewandowski told

Sportweek

.

“He is always open to dialogue and willing to help. He knows what’s important and what can make the difference for a footballer.”

Bayern Munich appointed Julian Nagelsmann as his successor for the next campaign.

We haven’t talked yet, I don’t know him personally, but I think he is a good coach. It looks like someone who can bring out the best from his teams. Those he coached always went beyond expectations, so he must be a good tactician,”

Lewandowski said.

When asked if it is going to be easier for him to meet the back of the net in

Serie A

, he said:

“For sure, I could play more games, 38 rather than 34. I’ve scored a few goals against Serie A clubs in the Champions League. I don’t know honestly, it would depend on the team.

“Maybe it would not be as easy because it’s a very tactical league, but I never really thought about it.

“Many thinks I am a robot, but I am human. For a striker, it’s very important to train every day. It’s crucial to train the mindset to make the best decision in a few seconds. Talent is important, but without hard work it won’t last long.”

He was also quizzed whether he believes himself to be the best striker in the world.

“I’ve been among the best for years, maybe I’m the best, I’d like to be so. The Ballon d’Or was not my target, I won the FIFA Award and the UEFA Best Player, which mean a lot to me.

“Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been up there for so long, but now I can invite them to my table. I think I can sit and talk to them about football, our passion, because I won everything last season.”
