Chelsea's Werner slams the fans in Bundesliga: "I was hated very much"
Timo Werner's time at RB Leipzig was productive. From 2016 to 2020, the German striker played four seasons at the Red Bull Arena before moving to Chelsea.
Until joining the
Premier Leagueside in June 2020, the center-forward had a fantastic final season with Leipzig, netting 34 goals in 45 games across all competitions.
On the other hand, his results have dwindled to a mere shadow of what they once were.
Stamford Bridge hosted
FA Cupchampions Leicester City in a vital end-of-season league match on Tuesday night, with around 10,000 fans allowed into the stadium due to the lifting of coronavirus restrictions in the United Kingdom.
"It was nice to hear that the fans like me and celebrate and cheer me on," he said.
The 25-year-old forward added:
"In Germany there are no songs for players. In Germany it was the opposite, I was hated very much. But here the whole audience was very good to me. You could see how important fans are in the stadium."
He had two goals nullified in Chelsea's 2-1 victory, representing his poor debut season.
Despite the shouts of support from the Chelsea fans, he chose to focus on the positives in his post-match press conference.
Even to his promising expectations, ex-Stuttgart striker has had a difficult first season with the Blues.
