Sun 09 May 2021 | 11:16

The Red Devils decided to make a tribute to Sir Matt Busby’s ex-assistant and one of their best coaches, Jimmy Murphy.

Months of discussions were held with fan groups to reach that decision about a memorial.

A building at

Manchester United

’s Carrington training ground is named after

Jimmy Murphy

as well as the Young Player of the Year award.

The Welshman joined United as Sir Matt Busby’s first signing and had many roles in the course of four decades. Murphy became his assistant in 1955 and was at the helm for a short time after the 1958’s Munich tragedy.

In 1971, Murphy became a scout for United and left his assistant role.

The club are supporting the fans by paying them £200 for the trip to Gdansk for the

Europa League

final. United will lock horns with

Villarreal

on May 26.
