Spurs' interim coach Mason furious at Harry Kane's VAR offside ruling
In the 3-1 loss to Leeds United, Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason felt officials on the field and elsewhere gave his squad a cruel hand.
Marcelo Bielsa's side won a tense match at Elland Road thanks to goals from Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford, and Rodrigo – a loss that effectively eliminates Spurs' chances of finishing in the
Premier League's top four.
During the first half, Son Heung-min equalized for the hosts, and Harry Kane believed he had put Spurs ahead, only to be called back for offside.
Despite the fact that replays revealed the decision to be very close, the video assistant referee sent Tottenham the bad news, leaving Mason disappointed.
"My first look, my second look and my 10th look tells me it's not an offside decision," Mason told Sky Sports.
"At 1-1, it's a big moment. In my opinion they got that one wrong. I can't believe it was given offside, to be honest.
"I don't think people understand the momentum shifts decisions like that can have in a game of football."
Despite Opta's projected goals predictions from an open game favoring Leeds by 2.49-1.05, Mason lamented his team's missing opportunities.
"We had opportunities and weren't clinical enough at times," Mason said;
Kane, hit the crossbar with a 72nd-minute free-kick when the score was 2-1
.
"We had big opportunities and big openings and it wouldn't go in for us, then the last 10 minutes they get one on the counter."
The Lilywhites have three games left this season and are five points behind fourth-placed
