Arsenal still trying to sign Onana despite his doping ban

The Cameroonian goalkeeper is banned from playing until the beginning of next year.

goalkeeper Andre Onana, but will wait for the outcome of his appeal against his doping ban.

Onana, who was banned by UEFA for 12 months for doping, is currently serving the ban. However, the Ajax goalkeeper has taken the case to the CAS court in order to finalize his appeal against the UEFA ruling. Onana's lawyers believe that his suspension, which will last until February 2022, could be reduced to eight months, so that he can move to another team in the summer transfer window and play from the beginning of next season.

Goal

confirmed that Arsenal's interest in the 25-year-old goalkeeper dates back to last January, when negotiations took place between the club and the player's representative. The Gunners hoped to be able to sign the Ajax goalkeeper, and even with the suspension, they are steadfast.

Onana justified his doping by saying that he had misused the medicine prescribed for his wife and Dutch players' union also had considered the length of his ban to be unfair. So Onana's lawyers are working to reduce his suspension in the CAS court so that the Cameroonian goalkeeper can move to another team in the summer transfer window.

Onana is said to cost Arsenal £12 million, but could be reduced to £7m as he enters the final year of his contract.
