Pulisic ‘frustrated’ after being dropped to bench against Real Madrid

Thu 06 May 2021 | 19:54

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has said he was very frustrated not to be included in Chelsea’s starting XI in their Champions League semifinal second-leg win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Chelsea

reached their first Champions League final since 2012 as goals from

Timo Werner

and

Mason Mount

secured a 2-0 victory over

Real Madrid

in their semifinal second leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to win the tie 3-1 on aggregate.

The USMNT star had netted a crucial away goal in Spain in the first leg last week but at Stamford Bridge he was only named on the bench, with

Kai Havertz

picked ahead of him.

However, Pulisic came off the bench in the 67th minute and provided an assist as Mason Mount doubled Chelsea’s lead, but the United States international felt he deserved more than just a substitute's role.

"Very frustrated,"

Pulisic told

CBS Sports

 post-match.

"Umm, yeah, there's not much else to say. I wanted to play from the beginning, as I always do.

"I've had to continue to prove myself over and over again. But, as always I reach out to God and he gives me strength.

"With that behind me, nothing can stop me really."
