With goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mound, Los Blancos lost their second leg of their Champions League tie with Chelsea 2-0 and 3-1on aggregate.

Although Zinedine Zidane admits Chelsea ‘deserved the victory’, the French coach is proud of his side’s endeavors. He told his post-match interview: “We can say they’ve deserved the victory.”

Edouard Mendy was the star of the match in the first half as he denied Karim Benzema on several occasions.

“We’ve tried but in the end they deserved to win and pass [to the final],” the Frenchman continued. “We played a semi-final and the players were prepared, if they played they were prepared.

“We can be proud of our players, we’ve tried and we’ve come this far, one step away from the final. Chelsea have played a great match and they deserved to pass. We have to congratulate them. Right now we’re not happy, but when you lose a semi-final you can’t be happy, that’s normal. It’s a hard moment but tomorrow we’ll train again.”

Real Madrid will next face Sevilla at home as a part of their close La Liga title race with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
