Unattached coach Villas-Boas will run in his country after three years of Dakar Rally competition.

Ex-

Tottenham

and

Chelsea

boss

Andres Villas-Boas

is going to start the World Rally Championship after going to Portugal.

The 43-year-old has not been employed since February when he parted ways with

Marseille

. He is taking another direction as is getting ready to pilot a Citroen C3 in his native country.

Jose Mourinho’s former assistant at

Porto

has a liking for motorsports, particularly for the off-road varieties. The Portuguese started the Dakar Rally with a Toyota Hilux; however, it ended on a low note.

Following his minor back injuries, he had to withdraw in stage four and he told BBC Sport:

"Nothing [was] broken, which was the main worry.

"Unfortunately, I can't continue but it's part of the Dakar."

In 2021, Villas-Boas joined a charity rally but this is going to be his first elite competition.

Ever since he was appointed as Academica’s head coach at the age of 32, he has been having mixed fortunes. He grabbed titles with Porto and Zenit; however, he did not deliver good results during his spell in the Premier League clubs, Chelsea and Tottenham.

He had a disagreement with Marseille’s board about putting pen to paper with Olivier Ntcham and offered a resignation in a press conference. He was later sacked by the club and Jorge Sampaoli came as his successor.
