Hakimi sheds light on Real Madrid departure

Mon 03 May 2021 | 9:08

Achraf Hakimi has won the Serie A title with Inter and celebrated his victory by making an appearance on El Chiringuito and speaking about his ex-club Real Madrid, based on reports from Marca and Football Italia.

Achraf Hakimi

has received many messages of support from friends and family, but neither

Zinedine Zidane

nor

Florentino Perez

had sent him their congratulations.

The Morocco international admitted that

Real Madrid

have a first refusal option on him if he chooses to leave Inter and explained why he departed in the first place. The 22-year-old joined

Inter

in the summer with a €40m transfer fee.

I have to clarify,”

Hakimi said.

“People are speaking saying that I didn’t want to compete for my position and it wasn’t like that. Everyone knows that Real Madrid was my home and that I would have liked to play there, but due to circumstances I think the club decided otherwise.

“But everyone knows that I would have liked to have been there and won the position. People talk, but people don’t know the reality. That bothers me a little, that people think I was afraid of winning or fighting for the position. I was the first one who asked if I could be there to win the position, because I felt qualified for it.”

The Moroccan has been running on a rich vein of form in Italy, with his transfer value raising to €50m. Hakimi, who is well-known for his speed and athleticism, has met the target seven times and provided seven assists in 33 games he played in the

Serie A

this season.
