Real Madrid are optimistic that Marcelo will be fit for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Chelsea next week.

It comes after

El Mundo

reported earlier this week that the Brazilian would be unavailable for selection because he had to count votes in Madrid's regional elections on Tuesday.

According to the paper, Los Blancos has been negotiating with the city's electoral authority to overturn the ruling, which will mean Marcelo would be working on election day for municipal votes.

Despite this, Madrid manager

Zinedine Zidane

said on Friday that the player would be available to play and would be able to rejoin his teammates on Wednesday.

"Marcelo will be able to fulfill his duties on Tuesday and then visit his teammates the next day," Zidane told reporters on Friday.

The experienced left-back, who started the first leg draw as a winger, has firmly surrendered his starting position at the left-back position to

Ferland Mendy

, but was recalled in the Frenchman's nonappearance.

Marcelo has lived in Madrid since January 2007, and as a result of his extended stay, he is a Spanish citizen.
