Koeman: We will fight to the last game for La Liga

The Blaugrana boss, who claimed his first trophy with Barcelona in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final, says his side won’t give up on their race for the league title.

as the Dutchman reaches the final stages of his first season at Camp Nou. Koeman’s side are out of the Champions League due to their 5-2 aggregate defeat against

PSG

, but they are still alive in La Liga’s title race as they are only two points behind leaders

Atletico Madrid

. In a post-match interview after the final, Koeman insisted his side won’t give up on their league title dreams.

"To win a title is important for me,"

Koeman said.

"Despite the changes at the club and the young players, at Barca you have to always fight for trophies.

"We have the first one and now we are going to fight to the last game in La Liga."

Asked about his side's performance against Athletic Bilbao, Koeman added:

"A result like this is not normal, but we deserved the cup,

"It took us a bit to score, but we had chances. Our possession has been good and after 1-0 we have dominated the game with great football in every way."

The Dutch coach praised

Lionel Messi

and

Frenkie de Jong

for their performances.

"De Jong and Messi are great players: Leo has been proving for so many years that he is the best in the world, he has returned to being effective, but we must also highlight Frenkie and the whole team,"

Koeman said.

"We have been at an extraordinary level. We deserve this cup."
