Fonseca feels Roma deserved their win over Bologna

Sun 11 April 2021 | 19:51

Tonight, Roma hosted Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, a match that ended with a single goal by Borja Mayoral for the Giallorossi to keep alive the Paulo Fonseca men's hopes to reach the top four.

It was important to rest some players who were in Amsterdam on Thursday,

” Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s true we had difficulties in the first 25 minutes with their pressing man-to-man, but we balanced it out and the second half was completely different.

“I think we created more scoring opportunities and deserved the victory.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan entered the game in the 68th minute and hopes to play in the Europa League's second leg against Ajax next week.

“We’ll see how Mkhi is, he only had one training session with us, but it’s important for us to have him available on Thursday.

“Ajax are a very strong side, we must be concentrated above all in defence and not make these mistakes again. We have to play at 100 per cent, because it’s going to be very difficult.

“The team must realise it’s not done yet and we need a perfect performance if we want to get through.”

Bryan Reynolds was a wonder today with his first start in Serie A after his move from MLS.

“He is learning a great deal, he’s doing much better, but we mustn’t forget he’s young and just arrived from a totally different style of football.

“It’s not easy for him, he might’ve been a little anxious at first, but I liked his performance and he can do well in future.”
