Luis Enrique praises La Roja’s ‘skilled’ defender

Spain boss is happy with Eric Garcia’s performance in World Cup qualification round.

Eric Garcia

’s contract with the

Manchester City

expires at the end of the season, and in a few weeks, the player starts the negotiations with

Barcelona

for a possible move to Camp Nou. Garcia has found himself out of

Pep Guardiola

’s favor at Man City since he has started only two matches this season.

However, despite lack of playing time at his club, the Spaniard was given the opportunity to play in all three of La Roja’s World Cup qualifying clashes and Spain boss

Luis Enrique

is delighted that the trust he put in the 20-year-old has paid off.

"The situation with Eric is not normal,"

Enrique said.

"We took some risks by calling a player who has played very little this season, but we trust him so much and his level is so high that, after three months without playing, he is able to come here and play three high-level games.

"He is a very intelligent player, you would never believe how young he is given how he behaves on the pitch. He gives us a lot of confidence in defense, he is very skilled, so that is why Man City have been trying to re-sign his contract for a long while, although he made a different decision.

"We are so happy to have a player like Eric. He leads our defense and is very communicative on the pitch and smart.

"He knows what to do every time and also is aware of the aspects he has to improve. Even though he does not play at his club, he can come here and do it well. He has just proved his level the week he has been here."
