Real Madrid set to sue the doping doctor

Tue 30 March 2021 | 4:50

The Spanish doctor, whose controversial role in some athletes’ doping cases made the news more than a decade ago, has allegedly been linked to Real Madrid's former medical team.

According to

Marca

,

Jordi Evole

, a journalist whose recent exclusive interview with

Lionel Messi

was widely covered around the world, had another exclusive and controversial interview with the Spanish doctor,

Eufemiano Fuentes

.

Fuentes is said to have played a part in Spanish cyclists’ doping cases back in 2006. The doctor's connection to sports such as football and tennis has also been revealed.

The 66-year-old has now hinted on his relationship with

Real Madrid

medical staff in the interview with Evole. He is said to have been in contact with Real Madrid,

Barcelona

,

Sociedad

and

Valencia

medical staffs.

When Evole asked Fuentes whether he had a relationship with Valencia, Fuentes immediately responded:

‘No’.

The next question was about his relationship with Real Madrid, and interestingly, Fuentes said after a long pause:

“I am not going to answer that question.”

The interview went on without any clarification in this regard, which left the impression that Fuentes was in contact with Los Blancos’ medical staff.

Following the interview, Real Madrid officials decided file a lawsuit against Fuentes. They believe the doctor’s vague answer regarding his relation with the team’s staff has damaged the club's reputation and he will soon have to answer in court.
