Elneny: Odegaard ‘has the personality to be a captain’

Fri 19 March 2021 | 12:06

The Gunners midfielder talked about his “wish” to see the Norwegian stay for a long time on their side as well as the latter’s potentials of becoming a captain in the future.

According to

Mohamed Elneny

,

Martin Odegaard

has a great potential to become a captain at

Arsenal

wishing to see the Norwegian signing a permanent deal with the

Premier League

side.

Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium on a loan from

Real Madrid

, Odegaard had a major impact on Arsenal’s performance and Elneny believes with a permanent contract the 22-year-old can even lead his teammates in the long-term.

Talking about Odegaard, Elneny told

VGTV

:<em>

“You always see him coaching players, outside of the dressing room as well.”

“He talks all the time about the game and what we are going to do. He has the personality to be a captain.”

Odegaard’s current loan contract does not include an option to buy, but having already expressed his desire to stay with the Gunners, the youngster would very likely have his wish granted.

When asked if they hope to see Odegaard’s stay extended, Elneny said:

“We wish, we wish, we wish.”

Odegaard had already experienced the chance of leading the Gunners once, and considering that he’s the captain of his own international squad, captaincy is something that could be seen in his future.

Though Arsenal are currently far from a top-four finish in the Premier League table, Odegaard hopes he can lead his current club to the Europa League glory following their qualification to the quarter finals and secure a spot in the Champions League race next season.
