Laporta committed to his €124.6m payment and will be the president

Tue 16 March 2021 | 20:20

There were rumors yesterday about Barcelona saying that Joan Laporta is unable to pay off Barcelona's debts.

Barcelona rules state that the newly elected president must pay at least 15% of the club's debts within 10 days, which is currently €124.6 million.

This means that Laporta had to pay this amount to creditors until today. The reason for the hesitation in paying this amount is that it seems that the initial agreement between Laporta and with Catalan-based renewable energy company Audax Renovables, which had guaranteed the payment of €70 million, has been broken.

José Elías Navarro, the founder of Audax, had stated that the company couldn't pay this amount and that it could only help Barcelona in its management. After this statement,

El Periodico

reported that the payment of Barcelona's debts is unclear.

However,

La Vanguardia

reported today that Laporta will pay off his €124 million debt by tomorrow and could continue as president of Barcelona.
