Hasenhuttl ‘happy’ with Minamino but blames ‘shape’ for their struggle
The Saints boss believes the Liverpool loanee has been struggling with inconsistency but admits that he still hopes to see more goals coming from him.
Since leaving
Liverpoolto join
Southamptonon a loan,
Takumi Minaminohas been struggling to score more than two goals for the Saints, but Ralph Hasenhuttl insists that the blame should be put on all of them as a team.
The
Japan internationaljoined Hasenhuttl’s squad back in January after failing to secure a regular spot among Jurgen Klopp’s men, still, he’s yet to live up to his promised potential.
In Southampton’s recent defeat to
Brighton, Minamino was the first player to be substituted on Hasenhuttl’s squad.
When asked about his decision, Hasenhuttl told
Hampshire Live:
"It is difficult for him now because the team is not in the best shape.”
"He always shows his quality on the ball but he did not have the biggest impact on the game, this is why I chose to substitute him and bring a fresh player on for him."
"We must have a look. I am happy he is here. He has scored two important goals for us so far and hopefully, he does that a few more times."
Minamino’s first appearance for Southhampton ended with a goal against
Newcastleand his second followed in their clash with
Chelsea, but since then he has failed to find his way to the net.
Out of their 12 recent
Premier Leagueoutings, Southampton have only won one game, but Minamino and his teammates still hope to see more of their team as they prepare for their Sunday clash against
Bournemouthin the FA Cup competition.
