Hazard advised to undergo surgery to not hamper his Euro 2020 dream

Tue 16 March 2021 | 15:52

The Belgium international is struggling with another ankle problem and his time in Spain has been afflicted by the matter.

Eden Hazard

was recommended to have doctors do surgery “as soon as possible” following another injury stopping the 30-year-old from shining and establishing consistency at

Real Madrid

.

During his side’s latest battle against Elche, he played for 15 minutes and was then sent off to the treatment room. According to

Kris van Crombrugge

, Hazard must undergo surgery if he wants to play at Euro 2020.

Van Crombrugge has told VTM:

“Surgery could be a good option to get the ankle flexible again.

“But, without wanting to interfere, I would advise to do it as soon as possible so they don’t hamper his dream of playing at the Euros.”

In Real Madrid’s 36 competitive games, the Belgium international has only played for 2,191 minutes and missed 50 games in two seasons. He moved to Santiago Bernabeu with a hefty price tag of €100 million (£86m/$120m) from

Chelsea

in 2019. However, since then he has only met the target four times and contributed seven assists to his side.

Zinedine Zidane

revealed that their big-money player’s injury setbacks have been really frustrating.

He said:

"It's something new. I can't really give any more of an explanation.

"Something's up, because he was never injured in his entire career [before joining Real] or there were very few injuries. We want to help him and hope he's back as soon as possible.

"They're things that I can't explain. I want to be positive and hope that it's not too much of a problem.

"We're going to try and figure out why it's happening but right now we can't explain it."
