Pep Guardiola

says that

Raheem Sterling

respects his decision not to play him in

Manchester City

's recent matches.

Sterling did not play for the Citizens after the match against

Manchester United

. Manchester City faced

Fulham

and

Southampton

after that and ended both matches with two victories in hand.

Guardiola talked to

Sky Sports

and said that Sterling would respect his manager's decision, although he might not feel good after not being able to play:

“I do not expect they are happy, the guys who do not play and who are not selected, so it is normal. That has always happened since football was created.

“Raheem in this case is so important for the team and for all of us.

“All the players respect my decisions.

“I never found in my career in 40 years one player who was happy when they are not playing, never, ever. But they react really well and behave very well.”

The 26-year-old winger played in 36 matches this season and registered 14 goals across all competitions.

With

Silva

,

Foden

, and

Mahrez

as the club's strength points this season, the competitive spirit among the players has increased.

However, City will need Sterling for the rest of the season to keep staying in the top four.
