Free kick against AC Milan helped me a lot-Christian Eriksen

Mon 15 March 2021 | 13:16

Christian Eriksen, who joined Inter from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020, did not have much playing time at the start of the season, but he has established himself in the Nerazzurri in recent weeks.

The 29-year-old believes that the free-kick he scored in the final minute against AC Milan helped him gain credit.

It was the hardest and most demanding season of my career,

told Danish broadcaster TV2 Sport.

“It was like going up and down continuously, but now I feel like I have recovered well.

“Not because I wanted to escape, I really wanted to fight for my place and I always have. I was sure that if my chance came, I would probably try to grab it.

“It was mentally difficult. I came to Inter to play football and when you aren’t allowed to do it, it’s annoying.

“Off the pitch it was absolutely fantastic. Milan is a beautiful city and the family is fine. It was only on the pitch that something was missing.

“Being an Inter player has always been nice, but the best moment is being able to play more. I’m having a great time, I was good at isolating myself and concentrating.

“For an incredible number of days, after training and games, I trained more. A free kick, a shot on target, I had the opportunity to train more because I didn’t play much.”

The goal scored by the Danish star against Milan in the Coppa Italia in the 90th minute is memorable for him.

I was a bit lucky, but it was a new beginning,

” Eriksen said. “

People started looking at me with different eyes

“I have improved from game to game and I’m happy that things went like this.

“I think that free kick helped me a lot, it helped the way people looked at things from the outside and I had proof that I still can play football well and that I can even take a free kick if there’s an opportunity.

“It great that I can challenge myself, but I still feel there are a lot of things I can prove. I still feel like I have a lot inside. I found out how quickly things happen in football. I have to take one day at a time.

“Now let’s see how it goes and what the future brings.”
