Nat Phillips: The Leipzig game won’t be the best game of my career

Mon 15 March 2021 | 11:52

The Reds defender says he is determined to improve his performances.

Nat Phillips

was frustrated by the lack of game time at the start of the current season as

Liverpool

’s backline was packed with world-class players. However, a string of unfortunate injuries in Liverpool’s squad changed the situation for the young center-back.

Jurgen Klopp

has been forced to integrate new players in his side’s line-up and Phillips has proved himself as a solid center-back in his recent appearances for the Reds. The 23-year-old’s performance in Liverpool’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig

was praised by Klopp

, but he insists that game won’t be the "peak" of his career.

Phillips told

The Telegraph

:

“It would be sad if I go on with the rest of my career and it is already peaked. That would be a shame.

“It is important to me that it [the game against Leipzig] does not become the biggest occasion or best game that I have ever played in.

“I try not to think about it too much because you can tie yourself in knots. My thought process is to take things day by day. I want to continue to keep having those moments. To be able to do that I have to be competing at a very high level in my career.”

Liverpool will play against

Wolverhampton Wanderers

in their next Premier League match on Monday.
