The ex-referee believes the Portuguese should have been sent off the pitch for his foul after scoring his first goal instead of allowing him to walk away without a warning.

Former

Serie A

referee, Luca Marelli, insists that

Cristiano Ronaldo

should have been given a red card for making a foul in

Juventus

' clash with

Cagliari

instead of allowing him to continue and score a hat-trick.

Following his first goal, the Portuguese was caught up in dangerous play to meet

Chiesa

’s cross where he hit

Alessio Cragno

in the face and left him with a cut chin.

Marelli, who saw the 36-year-old score a hat-trick in the game after their recent Champions League exit, said:

“Ronaldo deserved a red card, although not intentional, it’s a serious foul that deserved a red card, too bad VAR didn’t intervene.”
