The England international urged his team-mates to level up their game after their deadlock with Leads United.
Ben Chilwell
believes
Chelseaneed to meet the target more as
Edouard Mendy
is securing the net at the back.
Thomas Tuchel
has led the Blues to 12 unbeaten matches following their clean sheet against
Leeds Unitedon Sunday. However, the result helped them just a little to secure their
Champions Leaguequalification on the
Premier Leaguetable.
The 24-year-old is worried that if they do not start raising their game, Chelsea will be held back. The left-back praised Mendy’s impressive display, however.
When asked about the Chelsea shot-stopper’s recent performance, Chilwell said:
"We know that when it comes down to it we can rely on Edou. Those one or two opportunities in a game when he has to concentrate and make a vital save, we know he is going to do that for us."
Chilwell is confident that for the Blues to end the season well, they need to add a ruthless streak in front of goal to their defensive solidity.
"
Coming into the game people would have predicted goals
," Chilwell added.
"The way Leeds play is pretty free-flowing and they are a difficult team to play against. They switch positions a lot on the pitch and it was a tough game. It wasn’t the best pitch for both teams to play on but we created chances.
"Leeds had a few chances but I think if you look at the chances we had, they were probably the better. I had a few chances and I had one in the second half when I should have scored.
"We need a bit more from each other in the final third and that is something we are trying to add. Defensively as a team we are solid and we are not conceding but going forward, we are going to want to score more goals to get us the wins."
Tuchel has led the team to eight victories and four tied clashes during his first two months at the helm. However, the squad has only met the target 11 times under the reign of the German tactician, with six of them being shared between Mason Mount and Jorginho.
Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham have found the net only once, while Olivier Giroud scored twice since Tuchel arrived. With Chelsea aiming for Europe’s elite competition and the FA Cup, the team should start delivering.
