Pep Guardiola: It is just incredible that penalty was not given

Wed 10 March 2021 | 22:09

The City manager was baffled after the foul on the England international did not result in a penalty award during the Victory over Southampton.

Pep Guardiola

believes

Manchester City

being denied a penalty for foul on

Phil Foden

was “incredible”.

City furthered their advantage on top of the

Premier League

with a thumping 5-2 victory over

Southampton

on Wednesday, with a brace from Kevin De Bruyne, two more by Riyad Mahrez as well as Ilkay Gundogan’s strike. Guardiola’s side could have gained more if they were gifted a penalty for their midfielder tripped up in the box, but the VAR decided that no foul was done.

"

I'm an honest guy and I never like to dive,

" Foden told

Sky Sports

 post-match.

"100 per cent I thought it was a penalty

."

"

We won because of the quality of the players we had on the pitch,

" Guardiola told

BBC Sport

.

"

It is just incredible that penalty was not given. One day they are going to explain why. I do not understand it. It's incredible that in four and a half years we have won everything ourselves. No one has given us anything."

Guardiola’s squad are set to face

Fulham

on Saturday, with the

Champions League

second-leg clash against

Borussia Monchengladbach

coming next; City vanquished them in the first leg.
