Ryan Giggs still can not join Wales’ World Cup campaign.
Ryan Giggs
is going to miss the start of
Wales’ World Cup campaign and
Robert Page
will remain in charge.
Giggs had a reported fight with his girlfriend Kate Greville and was arrested on suspicion of assault in November.
As a result, he missed Wales’ Nations League fixtures in November and Page had to replace him, according to
Four Four Two.
FAW stated:
“The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp.
“Robert Page will take charge for the next three matches against Belgium, Mexico, and the Czech Republic and will be supported by Albert Stuivenberg as was the case during the last international window in November.”
Wales were able to win the games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in November and were also promoted into the top tier of European football under Page.
Page, who joined Giggs’ backroom staff in August 2019, is now going to take charge of Wales’ opening two World Cup qualifiers this month.
Wales first are going to face Belgium in their Group E on March 24 and six days later they are going to host the Czech Republic in Cardiff.
Page is going to announce his squad for the games on Monday, including their friendly on March 27 with Mexico.
Another news for Wales was a vote of no confidence by the FAW council on Tuesday for chief executive
Jonathan Ford
who is obliged to leave his position on March 31 and his departure resulted in disrupting Wales’ preparations for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament this summer.
Although he had been at the FAW since December 2009 and was widely credited with lifting the association’s profile and increasing turnover, rising tensions behind the scenes over a couple of issues led to a vote of confidences by 26 votes to five on February 22.
