Cagliari boss lauds Godin: ‘He has experience and availability’

Cagliari head coach Leonardo Semplici said Diego Godin would have a "fundamental" role in fighting against relegation.

The Rossoblu manager, who supplanted Eusebio Di Francesco a month ago, began his work with a 2-0

Serie A

victory against Crotone last time.

Tomorrow, he gets ready for his first home fixture at the Islanders' helm when they show up, and the 53-year-old coach inclines toward the more experienced players in the team while praising previous Inter center-back

Godin

"He has experience and availability," Semplici said at a press conference. "I didn't know him personally.

"I'm happy to coach him, like other experienced players in the team, he will be fundamental.

"Already at Crotone the veterans helped those who aren't used to these kinds of matches.

"That's what I expect from him between now and the end of the season, because I know he can do it very well."

Semplici

conceded after the 2-0 win over Crotone that it was more mental work than strategic and clarified why he assembled the players in a circle after the game.

"As for the gesture at the end of the game, I always did that with SPAL too," he said. "I don't like doing it before because we talk ahead of the match and in the end, the result remains.

"This is my way at the end of the match to stay close to them and to be united for the target."
