Mon 01 March 2021 | 17:17

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to miss the Europa League face-off against his previous club Manchester United after the AC Milan forward endured a thigh muscle injury during their Serie A match with AS Roma at the end of the week.

The 39-year-old went through examinations after stepping off during the 2-1 victory in Rome, affirming that he is experiencing an adductor problem.

Therefore, Ibrahimovic will miss the first leg of the

Europa League

round of 16 match against the Red Devils and is wavering for the second leg game.

The Sweedish went off the pitch in minute 56 of the game at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night, leaving Milan perspiring on the wellness of a man who is fundamental for their offers for both homegrown and European success.

Zlatan has scored 16 goals in 21 games in all rivalries this season, with 14 of them in

Serie A

matches, he is a vital member of the team who has helped the Rossoneri stay within four points behind Inter in the league table.

He has also encouraged Milan to the last 16 of the Europa League, where they face United in Manchester on March 11, preceding the return game seven days after the fact.

Early reports suggest that he will be out for three weeks, undoubtedly leading him out of the first leg and likely the return match.

Ibrahimovic has a history with Man Utd, having played for them between July 2016 and March 2018.

He was a member of Jose Mourinho's Europa League-winning men in 2017; however, he missed the final against Ajax due to injury and may now be unable to face his former team in that equivalent rivalry.
