Flick: “We made a giant step towards the quarter-final”

Wed 24 February 2021 | 9:05

Current Champions League winners are getting closer to securing their title.

Bayern Munich

manager

Hansi Flick

revealed that vanquishing

Lazio

in the first leg has took them a “giant step” towards the quarter-final in the

Champions League

.

The current champions have thrashed Lazio 4-1 on Tuesday courtesy of Robert Lewandowski, Jamal Musiala, and Leroy Sane’s goals as well as a Franceso Acerbi own net.

With sealing a victory, they have a major edge as they plan to seal their title.

"

Everybody met the expectations, we had a very good team performance and everybody applied pressure

," Flick told

Sky Sports

"

Everybody had the will to do something special right from the start. The win is well-deserved. I am very happy. We made a giant step towards the quarter-final."

Having been on the starting lineup once in the 2021,

Musiala

pulled off an impressive performance for Bayern, meeting the second target of the clash. With players like Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry and Douglas Costa being out of action, Musiala stepped up and pleased Flick.

He’s very secure on the ball and plays well between the lines

," Flick said. "

He has a good feeling for what spaces he can or should occupy and did a good job today along with the rest of the team.

"Of course, the goal made us all happy, so we’re very satisfied. A deciding factor for why he played today was that we needed someone like him to keep possession, someone who could try to create overloads between the lines and in the half-spaces, and give passing options. He did that well.”

Bayern are leading the

Bundesliga

table currently, with two points clear of

RB Leipzig

.

They will take on Koln on the weekend before hosting a clash against

Borussia Dortmund

on March 6.
