The Uruguay international has met the target seven times in a significant debut campaign at Manchester United.

Manchester United

boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

admits that

Edison Cavani

’s impressive debut season for the Red Devils is barely a surprise to him.

The Uruguayan has had a significant influence this season after he put pen to paper with United as a free agent in October, finding the net seven times with six of them having been scored in the

Premier League

.

The decision on whether to sign an extension with the 34-year-old or not is going to be determined when the campaign ends.

I haven’t been surprised by Edinson, just impressed,

” the United manager said.

I spoke to Ander Herrera and Diego Forlan and other players who knew Edinson. Every single one of them sang Edinson’s praises for his attitude, his personality – and that is exactly what we have seen.

”I can only say that I have been really impressed with him. But surprised, no, because I knew what we were getting.“

About an extension contract with Cavani, Solskjaer added: “

I will sit down with him at the end of the season.

We will have a discussion with Edinson and between ourselves at the club. But I have to say that what he’s done has been very positive.

"All I will say is that I hope the weather in Manchester will improve for him!”

Although he started the season rather slowly, he has now taken on a key role in Solskjaer’s squad. The Uruguay international has been in the starting XI in eight games with most of them being in the latest outings.

Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood’s scoring form hasn’t bested last season’s which means the Uruguayan’s goals were of great importance for a squad that Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are leading.

Manchester United have the most goals scored in 24 Premier League matches this season as they sit second on the table.
