Sheringham criticizes Mourinho for blaming players

Wed 17 February 2021 | 12:19

Former Tottenham striker says the Portuguese coach must take more responsibility for his side’s results.

Jose Mourinho

is widely considered as one of the best coaches of the last decade. The Portuguese manager has won many trophies with

Porto

,

Real Madrid

, and

Manchester United

but he is currently stuck with a

Spurs

side that is struggling for form. They started the season with promising results and even reached the top of the table for a short period. However, Mourinho's team soon lost their good form and are currently in ninth place on the league table behind Aston Villa. In an interview with

Goal.com

,

Teddy Sheringham

has spoken about Mourinho and his chances of winning trophies at the north London club.

"Typical Jose, isn't it?"

Sheringham told

Goal.com

"Without being too rude, if Tottenham loses, it is Tottenham's fault. If Tottenham win, then it’s Jose’s fault, that’s how it works in Jose’s world.

"He's got a tough job on his hands [against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in April], but he will bring silverware. It’s something that they need to do, as they [always] get awful stick from Arsenal fans.

"They were very good under [former boss Mauricio] Pochettino, but he did not win anything, and that is what you look back on as a professional footballer in your career, that you win stuff.

"Jose is a proven winner, and hopefully that will be the case at Tottenham."
