Sami Khedira talked about what he brought to the Bundesliga after his impressive performance for Hertha BSC.

and he made an impressive performance in his debut.

Many believe central midfield might be the only position that Hertha BSC had no shortage of players and question why Khedira was brought in for that position.

Khedira answered those questions indirectly in his interview after the game.

"Football is a game of distribution and mapping," Khedira said, "I knew where the spaces were. Understanding a game, how the opponent is playing. That's one of my strengths."

Khedira said that he was carefully studying the game from the sidelines before he replaced Krzysztof Piatek. He then took control of the match after his introduction.

It also seemed that he still had American football on his mind.

"In American football, everyone has their route. If someone doesn't run their route, the whole game gets screwed," Khedira said, "It's a bit like that in [association] football too. If you don't stand where you need to stand, it gets difficult. We held our positions better today."
