With Dias joining City, the team's defensive performance has improved considerably.
defender Joleon Lescott believes Ruben Dias has added a spirit to the team's defense that Virgil van Dijk has added to Liverpool's defense following his arrival.
Diaz joined Manchester City from Benfica in September and Guardiola's defense has a very good record since then. In 27 games in his presence, they have won 20, recorded 16 clean sheets and conceded only 9 goals. The Portuguese defender has also added a leadership spirit to his squad that has not been seen at City since Vincent Kompany's departure in 2019. Lescott now praised the Portuguese defender.
“Dias is the figure we were looking for - he had won stuff,”
“He knows what it means, knows the standards, and has a winning mentality. He’s been there before. He’s bringing that experience.
“The stats are considerably better [for Ruben],” Lescott said. “I don’t want to take anything away from Dias but he came into a team that had success - Liverpool hadn’t.
“Liverpool were hopeful of being contenders. The gap they had to reduce was difficult - and that’s not playing down what Dias has done because he deserves a lot of credit – but it’s hard to say one impact is bigger than the other.
“If we hadn’t signed Dias and won the league this season, that wouldn’t be a surprise.”
