FIGC calls for further investigation into Lukaku & Ibrahimovic clash

The Inter and AC Milan forwards have been banned from their next cup match but could face further punishment by the Italian FA.

Both

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

and

Romelu Lukaku

will serve a one-match ban from the Italian cup competition as a result of the cards they picked up during their teams’ clash on Tuesday. Lukaku was only a yellow card away from a suspension before the match and Zlatan was sent-off after getting his second yellow card for a clumsy tackle in the second half. However, the president of the Italian FA (FIGC) has now stated that the prosecutor has requested further investigation into the case and the parties involved could face further punishment.

"What we saw was not pleasant and must be questioned,"

FIGC president

Gabriele Gravina

said, as per

ANSA. "From a regulatory point of view, the referee highlighted what he saw on the pitch, now the prosecutor will acquire the report to understand what the disqualifications refer to. If no indications related to specific facts emerge, the prosecutor will take the measures he deems appropriate."

Zlatan denied using racist language in his clash with Lukaku. The 39-year-old wrote on his Twitter account:

“In Zlatan's world there is no place for racism! We are all the same race – we are all equal! We are players. Some better than others.”
