Sevilla forward Munir finally approaches representing Morocco

Sat 30 January 2021 | 16:48

Reportedly, Munir is finally available to play for Morocco. FIFA are ready to consider the situation in line with rules regarding eligibility to play for national teams.

CAS rejected the Moroccan Football Federation’s request against the FIFA resolution specifying

Munir

couldn’t play for

Morocco

in November 2020.

That request followed a choice made by FIFA in September 2020 dismissing the Sevilla forward the authorization to shift his footballing nationality from Spanish to Moroccan.

The reason for FIFA's rejection was that Munir, born in Spain and with Moroccan parents, played three matches with the Spanish U21 team when he was already 21.

This decision was not based on the game Munir played for La Roja in 2014, when he was ten minutes on the pitch under Vicente del Bosque.

Everything shows that the problem could be evaluated not in the letter of the law but in its conception.

That could qualify FIFA to not apply an unfortunate rule that was applied to Munir, and help him finally represent Morocco in the future days.
