Dramatic fall in new Covid-19 cases in Premier League

The Premier League announced there had been eight positive cases in the previous week which is a significant decrease compared to the prior week.

Premier League tightened its Covid-19 protocols and ramped up testing to twice a week this month due to a rise in the infection rate in the Premier League.

The highest number of positive tests were recorded between December 28 and January 3, when 40 new cases were detected.

However, the number dropped by 20 between January 11 and 17 and has seen another significant decrease this time around.

2,518 tests completed between Monday 18 January and Sunday 24 January and only eight returned positive.

The Premier League does not provide specific information over who the individuals are who test positive, nor which clubs they are associated with.
