Arsenal are advancing the talk to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder, Martin Odegaard on loan, and reports confirm that the north London team believe that they will land their man until the end of the season.

Arsenal

are now at the front of the queue for

Odegaard

, who asked him to leave Real Madrid this month just to get more regular game time.

The 22-year-old international, who can play as No.10 or on the right-wing, has been in nine matches for Real Madrid this season and in three regular matches in La Liga - two of them were in the opening week of the campaign.

Arsenal

have been in the market for a new attacking midfielder this month to help take the burden off.

The 20-year-old Emile Smith Rowe has played remarkably in last weeks, but Mikel Arteta and his staff are trying to take the burden off the youngster - who has had injury issues during the past two years.

Arsenal

’s priority has been on reducing the number of players this month, with letting Mesut Ozil, Sean Kolasinac, William Saliba, and Sokratis leave.

But

Arteta

confirmed on Thursday that need to bring players in.

"We are in that process right now,"

said

Arteta

.

"We've done the first part (trimming the squad), more or less, and now we are focusing on the second phase.

"Obviously this market and the context makes it really difficult but we are looking at options and we will see what we can do.

"We are looking at various positions because the movements that we've made in this transfer window with some players leaving the club leaves us a little bit short in certain areas.

"If we can then we will do it, if we can't then we will just keep going with what we have."

Specialists at

Arsenal

say work needs to be done before making a deal with

Odegaard

, and reportedly there will be no purchase agreement included in the contract.
