Barcelona presidential candidate has talked about Messi‘s red card against Bilbao.

While it was expected that

would win the Supercopa de Espana,

Ronald Koeman

's side lost 3-2 to

Athletic Bilbao

in the final and failed to win their first trophy of the season.

The defeat in the final was made even more bitter for Barcelona when, in the final seconds of the match, a clash happened between

Lionel Messi

and Bilbao's

Asier Villalibre

; where the Argentine superstar punched the opponent in the back of the head which caused the referee to show him the red card.

There has been a lot of speculation about a possible vote by the Spanish Football Disciplinary Committee on Messi's move, but it has finally been revealed that the player will only be suspended for two games;

Now, Barcelona presidential candidate,

Joan Laporta

has talked about the clash.

"I think he’s just trying to get the Buffalo of Guernica off him, who, by the way, I like, but always goes to disrupt,”

Laporta said.

“He intentionally blocks Leo’s path.”

Lionel Messi finally received a red card after 753 appearances for Barca.

He has been sent off twice in Argentina shirt, but had never received a red card in Barcelona.
