Emiliano Sala's family still have questions about his death

Thu 21 January 2021 | 11:47

Emiliano Sala was a Nantes player who was going to Cardiff to sign for the club.

A year after Emiliano Sala’s death, his family are still waiting for answers about the crash of the aircraft into the English Channel. The plane carrying the 28 year old player was a Piper Malibu which was carrying the FC Nantes player to Cardiff City back in January 21, 2019.

The body of Sala was eventually found but the pilot which according to reports was unqualified has not been found. David Ibbotson, 29, from Lincolnshire was the pilot of the plane. David Henderson was the man who arranged the flight is due to stand trial in October. He is accused of endangering the safety of the aircraft and also attempting to discharge a passenger without valid permission.

On Thursday, Daniel Machover, a lawyer who represents the family, said:

“It is a tragedy that two years have passed since Emiliano’s death and we still do not know exactly how and why he died.

“An inquest is the only way to establish the full truth.

“I very much hope that the Dorset Coroner will now set a date for the inquest to start immediately after David Henderson’s trial, so that Emiliano’s family do not have to endure another bleak anniversary with no answers.”
