A day after Athletic Bilbao won the Spanish Super Cup, Iñaki Williams's agent claimed that his client would sign a contract withAthletic
to retire at the club.
Bilbao won the competition in Williams's presence, defeating Real Madrid in the semi-finals and Barcelona in the final. Williams scored Athletic's winning goal in extra time against Barcelona to give the club its second title since 1984. The 26-year-old star has spent his entire football career in Bilbao, scoring 62 goals in 269 games for the first team. Now his agent has confirmed that he is ready to sign a contract with the club to retire at San Mamés.
He told Marca:
“This year Iñaki had 3 objectives: the Supercopa, the final of the Copa del Rey and the European Championships. Logically Iñaki Williams would sign a contract to retire at Athletic Bilbao.
“There has been more than one possibility of leaving, but the decision is up to the player and his family. We have always come to fruition. There has been more than one occasion to leave.”
