Sun 17 January 2021 | 19:03

The Poland international reached 21 goals for the season following their win over Freiburg.

Bayern Munich

star,

Robert Lewandowski

, who helped the Bundesliga giants win the treble last season, broke the goal-scoring record set by Gerd Muller after his winning a shot against

Freiburg

in the seventh minute of the game.

The Poland international became the first Bundesliga player to score 21 goals in the first-half of the German League breaking Muller’s record of 20 goals. Lewandowski has been able to win FIFA's The Best Men's Player award for 2020 and he could have won the

Ballon d’Or

award if the ceremony wasn’t called off due to coronavirus.

Lewandowski, who was among the top three players including

Cristiano Ronaldo

and

Lionel Messi

to compete for the Ballon d’Or award, believes he has reached the same level as the two legends, saying:

"If you take the numbers for this year and even previous ones, I think I'm pretty good in terms of performance and goals scored."

“Failing to be at the same table as Messi and Ronaldo, I think I can invite them to eat at mine!”
