Italian sources report that Mario Mandzukic is set to return to Serie A.

Mario Mandzukic

was introduced to the

world of football in

Bayern Munich

and also won the Champions League with the team. He joined

Atletico Madrid

in the 2014, scoring 20 goals in 43 games. He then left Atletico for

Juventus

.

Mandzukic left Juventus at this point in the season last year and joined the Qatari club,

Al-Duhail

. He has recently terminated his contract with the club and is now free agent.

Following reports that

AC Milan

are interested in signing Mandzukic,

Calciomercato

claimed last week that Paolo Maldini, the club's technical director, and Frederic Massara, the club's sporting director, have met with the Croatian striker's agent and the first round of talks has begun.

Several news sources in Italy have reported that Mandzukic is about to sign a contract with Milan and return to Serie A. According to

Calciomercato

, the former Juventus striker has reached an agreement with Milan and is set to join the Rossoneri on Tuesday with an 18-month contract as a free agent. Apparently, the only issue left in the negotiations between the two parties is whether their contract will be 18 months from the beginning or six months with the option of extension for another season.

Also, in the past few hours, some Italian sources have reported that Mandzukic has taken part in Milan's medical tests and his transfer to San Siro should be considered final.

The former Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich star made 162 appearances for Juventus in all competitions during his Serie A career, scoring 44 goals.
