Former Blaugrana forward is not sure about Messi’s transfer saga but says Barcelona must respect the Argentinian’s decision.

Lionel Messi

pushed a move away from

Barcelona

in the summer transfer window but his actions were blocked by the Catalans. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner eventually announced that he will stay at Camp Nou out of respect for the final year of his contract. However, speculations over Messi’s next decision regarding his future are heating up as he enters the last months of his contract with Barcelona.

Emmanuel Amunike

believes that whatever decision Messi will come up with, Barcelona must respect and thank him for all he has done for the club.

“You never know what's going to happen,”

He told

Radio MARCA

.

“The reality is that you have to thank Messi for everything he's given to Barcelona. But everything has its beginning and end. He's not as young as he was.

“But I'll remember what Messi has done for the club. If Messi leaves, you have to respect him and thank him for what he's done.”

Asked about Ronal Koeman’s influence on Barcelona’s progress in the current season, Amunike responded:

“I'm happy for Koeman. It hasn't been so easy for him.

“Now they're in the final of the Supercopa de Espana and that will give the team more confidence.”
