The Roji Blancos were able to increase their advantage at the top of the La Liga table to 4 points after a 2-0 victory over Sevilla on Tuesday, as well as bouncing back from their Copa del Rey exit against Segunda B side Cornella.
Atletico Madrid marked a both good defensive and attacking performance against Sevilla, as Angel Correa, who started ahead of Joao Felix, scored Atleti’s first goal assisted by Kieran Trippier in the 17th minute.
Saul Niguez came off the bench for the second half as he helped the Roji Blancos’ continued advantage by scoring the match’s second goal.
“I’m happy to be able to help the team with a goal,” Saul said post-match in comments carried by Marca. “It’s the first that I can dedicate to my wife and my daughter who will soon be born.”
The Spaniard emphasized the importance of day-to-day work despite admitting to regaining confidence from his performance against Sevilla.
“This helps, but what counts is the daily work, not breaking down,” he said. “The work with the people outside the club, not only physical work. Everything helps and the work pays.”
