Fri 08 January 2021 | 13:29

Aston Villa will face Liverpool in the FA Cup tonight with their Under-23 players due to the increase in the number of first team members infected with coronavirus.

Aston Villa

will host

Liverpool

in the third round of the FA Cup today, while because of the increase in the number of players and staff infected with coronavirus, they will not have their first team and their U23s will play instead.

Aston Villa boss

Dean Smith

will be replaced by

Mark Delaney

, Villa’s Under-23s coach for today’s match.

Aston Villa announced yesterday that the team has been forced to close its training complex due to a sudden increase in the number of positive COVID-19 tests. The club said in a statement that several players and staff tested positive on Monday and were immediately quarantined. But subsequent tests on Thursday found that more of the club members were infected with the virus.

As the result, Aston Villa had to cancel their training session 24 hours before their match against Liverpool and close the training complex.

Prior to this situation and

Aston Villa

being forced to use U23s, many were waiting for the match. Because the match between the two teams in the past weeks had led to a strange

Liverpool

7-2 loss and people were expecting another interesting clash.
