Andy Cole: Grealish is super but doesn’t fit Manchester United

Thu 07 January 2021 | 9:05

Former Red Devils forward believes that a big transfer budget shouldn’t be spent on a player who doesn’t have a guaranteed starting place.

There have been rumors around

Manchester United

’s interest in signing

Jack Grealish

as the January transfer market approaches. The 25-year-old was reported to be the Red Devils transfer target a year ago when they finally moved on to sign

Bruno Fernandes

from Sporting. The Portuguese midfielder has become a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team but there have been suggestions that Grealish could still become useful in Manchester United’s squad especially as

Paul Pogba

is likely to leave the club because of his reduced game time.

Andy Cole

believes Grealish to be a top-level player but sees no point in his potential transfer to Manchester United.

“I think Grealish is a super player, I’m not going to sit here and say anything different, but I’m looking at Manchester United’s midfield at the moment, where would you play him?

“You look at Bruno [Fernandes], the performances he’s putting in; that’s the position [Grealish] likes to play in. If you put him off the left, [Marcus] Rashford plays there - so where would you play him again?

“I’m a mere mortal when it comes to things like this. I’m like everybody else from the outside looking in.”
