Saliba was a waste of money, claims Ferdinand

Wed 06 January 2021 | 11:21

Manchester United legend has spoken about the Saliba's situation at Arsenal.

Saliba

signed for

Arsenal

in 2019 and spent the season on loan in

Saint-Etienne

. The Gunners had to pay £27million for the French defender and he arrived in London this summer. However, Arteta didn’t even give the 19 years old one match to show himself and he was sent on loan again recently to another French side,

Nice

.

Rio Ferdinand claims that William Saliba was a waste of money. Discussing Arsenal's centre-backs, he told his FIVE YouTube channel:

"I still think Arsenal need a top centre half, all the problems stem from that.

"You’ve got a great nucleus of young players, there’s seven or eight young players there who everyone is talking about.

"But you’ve got to put the pieces around them and that’s the big problem. That’s been the big problem with recruitment at Arsenal for so long.

"Saliba, what’s happened with him? It’s a waste of money it seems at the minute. I don’t know what’s happened.

"Gabriel has been indifferent. Rob Holding’s playing centre back, what does that say? When you see Holding as the Arsenal captain, you could never imagine that a few years ago."

Arsenal had a solid defense this year although they have not got good results. They have conceded 19 goals in 17 games and only three teams have conceded less.
