‘Cagliari can’t get depressed, we must unite’ – Simeone

Mon 04 January 2021 | 10:22

Giovanni Simeone believes his side cannot afford to be ‘depressed’ following their thumping 4-1 defeat over Napoli and is delighted that Radja Nainggolan is back.

The Argentina international

Giovanni Simeone

had an interview after

Cagliari

’s loss to

Napoli

on Sunday and admitted that his side expected a ‘struggle’ in case they didn’t perform well.

We had a strong team in front of us, with great quality in all departments,

” he said. “

It wasn’t the performance we wanted, we tried to press hard right away, but they put their characteristics on the pitch and were in charge.

“When you face such good opponents, you will struggle if you aren’t perfect. We’re sorry and I think the only recipe right now is to work and find out what we are missing.”

Cagliari midfielder

Joao Pedro

was able to meet the target after 60 minutes, however, they could not have kept up with the Azzurri at the end.

Cagliari striker Simeone insists that his side has no time for looking at the table and should unite to get past the current struggle after having had their eighth consecutive winless run.

We have to recover our path quickly, we have been trying for a long time, but things are not going the right way,

” he added.

We can’t get depressed; it’s a mental issue and we must come out of it working as a team and thinking about what’s wrong.

“You have to be compact, mean, decisive and attentive to every detail. This is not the time to look at the standings.

“It’s important to stand united and analyse the mistakes, knowing that we have the qualities to do much better.”

Nainggolan

has put pen to paper in a loan contract with Cagliari until June 2021.

Radja is a great player and an element of personality,” Simeone said. “He will give us a lot on the pitch and experience in the dressing room.”
