Sun 03 January 2021 | 22:16

Lionel Messi has played his 500th La Liga matches and 750th in all competitions for Barca with Huesca in Sunday's meeting after getting back at Ronald Koeman's starting line-up.

Koeman informed on Saturday that he continued training during the week even though he was given an extended break over Christmas for the ankle issue.

Messi

's 500 league matches for

Barca

is five less than the club record held by ex-teammate Xavi, who also has the record for all-time matches for

Barca

with 767.

He is the 2nd player, and the firstborn out of Spain, to hold a record in

Barca

.

The record for the most matches ever played in La Liga is held by ex-goalkeeper, Andoni Zubizarreta, with 662 games for Athletic Club,

Barca

, and Valencia.

Barca

travel to Huesca undefeated in five league matches, but they have drawn two of their last three and enter the game 13 points less than leaders Atletico Madrid.

Messi

missed the game last week, when he followed from the stands as the Catalans were held 1-1 at home to Eibar.

Messi

was directly connected with four goals in his last La Liga game against Huesca, netting twice and contributing two assists in September 2018.
