Carragher believes Chelsea did not make good purchases in the summer and do not know how they can use Havertz.
Liverpool legend and former England defender Jamie Carragher has criticizedChelsea
's summer signings, claiming they do not know how to use Kai Havertz.
Chelsea paid a staggering £62million to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer to move Havertz to Stamford Bridge. The German midfielder has made 14 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, scoring just one goal and assisting one since October, and has not had a significant impact on Chelsea's performance. Carragher now criticized Chelsea's purchases, claiming they did not know how to use their Havertz.
“'I look at Kai Havertz and wonder if Chelsea really needed to sign him last summer? He is obviously a player of great potential, but it never works buying a player because he is so highly rated, unless you have a predetermined idea where he will fit into the side,”
Carragher wrote in The Telegraph.
“I am starting to wonder if Frank Lampard has too many options and that is why he is yet to settle on the right formula.”
“After an inconsistent run, Frank Lampard has been playing down the idea Chelsea were ever title contenders,” he said.
“Maybe this season was too soon, but although he may not have the best starting XI in England, Frank certainly has one of the strongest squads.”
