The SAFF Championship is set to be held consecutively from September 14 to 25 next year in Bangladesh.
Initially, Pakistan was chosen to be the host of the tournament, which would be the country’s first after FIFA unbanned Pakistan’s membership. However, Kazi Salahuddin, SAFF president, and seven countries’ representatives have decided to pick Bangladesh for holding the venue.
The SAFF Championship was supposed to take place in 2020 but the Coronavirus pandemic has led to the postponement of the tournament.
The games will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka and among the countries engaging are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Maldives. India have won the title seven times with the last won being acquired in 2015 when they vanquished Afghanistan.
In 2018, Maldives grabbed the title defeating India with a 2-1 result.
